Principal Mobile Apps Platform Engineer

About the role

As a Principal Software Engineer you will lead the evolution of Autotrader’s flagship car‑buying app, shaping a server‑driven UI platform that powers millions of users across iOS and Android.

Key responsibilities

• Provide technical leadership for the server‑driven UI framework, ensuring scalability, performance and long‑term maintainability.
• Design and drive architecture decisions for mobile applications and associated backend Kotlin services.
• Mentor and coach engineers, fostering knowledge sharing through pair programming, code reviews and stand‑ups.
• Collaborate with product and design teams to deliver high‑quality, consumer‑focused features at scale.
• Maintain and evolve backend Kotlin services that power dynamic UI rendering.

Required profile

• Extensive experience building and supporting mobile applications on iOS and/or Android.
• Strong background in backend development with Kotlin, Kotlin Multiplatform, Gradle and Spring Boot.
• Proficiency with mobile development toolsets (Swift/Xcode/Instruments for iOS; Kotlin/Jetpack/Android Studio for Android).
• Deep understanding of unit testing, RESTful API design, refactoring and regression test automation.
• Demonstrated ability to mentor and coach engineers and influence architectural direction.
