Principal Safety Case Engineer

About the role

Mott MacDonald’s Energy Unit is seeking a Principal Safety Case Engineer to support nuclear power generation, the naval nuclear programme and decommissioning projects. You will work within a multidisciplinary team delivering safety‑critical deliverables that shape the future energy landscape.

Key responsibilities

• Produce and maintain safety cases (e.g., SJP, PCSR, PCmSR, PRS).
• Prepare modification and design‑change submissions (LC/AC 22).
• Lead decommissioning safety assessments.
• Conduct functional, deterministic and probabilistic safety assessments.
• Manage regulatory interfaces and ALARP assessments.
• Perform safety and risk assessments, including HAZOP, HAZAN, criticality and nuclear fire studies.
• Interpret and apply nuclear safety legislation, regulations and policy.
• Provide engineering substantiation for safety arguments.

Required profile

• Degree in a Science, Technology or Engineering discipline.
• Experience in nuclear or defence sectors (high‑hazard industries acceptable).
• Chartered Engineer status or working towards it.
• Proven ability to deliver complex nuclear safety deliverables.
• Willingness to mentor junior staff.
