Principal Software Developer

About the role

Join OMNIA® Training as a Principal Software Developer and help transform British Army collective training. Based in Warminster with hybrid working, you will work in a high‑impact, collaborative environment that follows the values and standards of the British Army.

Key responsibilities

• Design, build and maintain secure, high‑performance backend services using Node.js, Python, Java or .NET Core/.NET 5+.
• Integrate APIs, databases and third‑party services to ensure seamless data flow.
• Develop modern frontend interfaces with React or Angular.
• Architect cloud‑first, scalable solutions using cloud‑native services.
• Containerise applications with Docker and Kubernetes (including Red Hat OpenShift).
• Automate CI/CD pipelines using Jenkins, GitHub Actions, Tekton or Azure DevOps.
• Implement Infrastructure as Code with Terraform or CloudFormation.
• Conduct peer code reviews, enforce coding standards and use static analysis tools such as SonarQube.
• Create and maintain automated test suites for unit, integration and end‑to‑end testing.
• Build observability into solutions with logging, metrics and tracing.
• Monitor security vulnerabilities and ensure compliance with OWASP and NIST standards.

Required profile

• Commitment to the British Army’s values and standards.
• Ability to work in a matrix organisation, reporting to the OMNIA Software Lead and Chief Engineer.
• Experience delivering secure, performant software in an agile environment.
