Principal Tailings Engineer – Lead Mining Projects

About the role

The Principal Tailings Engineer will provide technical leadership on tailings storage facilities (TSFs) for major international mining projects. Based in London, you will support clients through the full asset lifecycle, from feasibility to closure, while championing industry best practice.

Key responsibilities

• Lead design, review and assessment of TSFs and mine‑waste infrastructure.
• Provide technical oversight for dam safety inspections, risk assessments and independent reviews.
• Deliver feasibility studies, detailed design, operational support, closure and expansion analyses.
• Ensure projects comply with GISTM, ANCOLD, CDA and other international standards.
• Act as a trusted technical advisor to mining clients and support business development activities.
• Mentor engineers and guide multidisciplinary project teams.

Required profile

• Degree in Civil, Geotechnical or related engineering discipline.
• Extensive consultancy experience delivering TSF and tailings projects.
• Strong knowledge of geotechnical analysis, seepage, stability and dam safety.
• Chartered Engineer status (or working towards).
• Full right to work in the UK and willingness to be based in London.
