Private Client Tax Manager – Personal Tax Lead

About the role
We are seeking an experienced Private Client Tax Manager to lead the personal tax function of a well‑established independent accountancy practice in Brighton. You will own a diverse portfolio of private clients, work closely with partners, and mentor junior staff while enjoying a supportive, hybrid working environment.
Key responsibilities
- Prepare, complete and submit self‑assessment tax returns for individuals, partnerships, landlords, estates, trusts and high‑net‑worth clients.
- Manage day‑to‑day trust administration, including cash books, trustee queries, distribution calculations, trust accounts and tax returns.
- Calculate capital gains tax liabilities and submit 60‑day CGT returns where required.
- Provide advice on residency, inheritance tax and capital gains tax, escalating complex matters to partners.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for personal tax clients, maintaining strong, long‑term relationships.
- Monitor work‑in‑progress, ensure timely billing and collaborate with partners to optimise workflow.
- Support and mentor a junior team member, reviewing work and offering technical guidance.
- Liaise with the wider accounts team to integrate personal tax considerations into broader client matters.
- Identify tax planning opportunities and contribute to ad‑hoc advisory projects.
Required profile
- Qualified tax professional (e.g., CTA, ACA, ACCA) with several years of personal tax experience.
- Proven ability to manage a varied client portfolio and meet strict compliance deadlines.
- Strong communication skills and a collaborative, client‑focused approach.
- Experience supervising or mentoring junior staff.
