Procurement Director – Energy & Utilities

About the role

AstraZeneca is looking for a Procurement Director to lead the UK energy sourcing strategy and support the broader EMEA portfolio. You will ensure reliable, compliant and cost‑effective supply of electricity, gas and related utilities for labs, manufacturing sites and offices, driving decarbonisation and resilience.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and execute energy and utilities procurement strategies across the UK and EMEA, aligning with site priorities and global direction.
• Identify and deliver value opportunities, including cost savings, risk mitigation, PPAs and portfolio optimisation.
• Define the UK energy category strategy, run sourcing events, negotiate supply agreements and optimise contract structures.
• Own end‑to‑end sourcing, supplier selection, commercial negotiations and contract implementation.
• Govern supplier performance through SLAs, metrics and continuous improvement.
• Establish supplier relationship management to drive innovation and operational performance.
• Build and operate an energy risk framework, implement hedges and report exposure, VaR and compliance.
• Monitor UK and European energy markets, regulatory changes and translate insights into actionable strategies.

Required profile

• Proven senior procurement experience in energy, utilities or related sectors.
• Strong understanding of electricity, natural gas, carbon certificates and related market mechanisms.
• Demonstrated ability to develop and execute category strategies and manage large‑scale sourcing events.
• Experience in risk management, hedging and financial exposure reporting.
• Excellent stakeholder management across multiple sites and regions.
