Procurement Manager

About the role

This role offers the chance to shape and lead a procurement function from the ground up for a manufacturer of precision technical equipment. You will report to senior leadership and take full charge of buying for a complex, made‑to‑order product range.

Key responsibilities

• Build and steer a small purchasing team, providing direction, coaching, and senior‑level problem solving.
• Translate demand forecasts into smart stock decisions to keep shelves full without tying up cash.
• Monitor supplier risk continuously and develop contingency plans.
• Partner with the design team to identify cheaper or quicker alternatives for parts, finishes or materials.
• Act as the translator between supplier capabilities and technical specifications, turning shop‑floor insight into formal change requests.
• Scout and onboard new suppliers to support growth and increase negotiating power.

Required profile

• Several years of hands‑on buying experience for complex, made‑to‑order products such as machined components, circuit boards and assemblies.
• Comfortable working with ERP/MRP systems.
• A natural people‑leader who enjoys coaching a small team rather than just directing it.
• Strong numerical ability and negotiation skills.
• Enjoys building relationships with technical colleagues across the business.
