Product Design Manager

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Product Design Manager to lead a team of design engineers in Stroud. The role involves overseeing product development from concept through to manufacture, ensuring technical excellence and timely delivery.

Key responsibilities

• Lead, mentor and develop a team of Design Engineers, graduates and apprentices.
• Manage new and existing product design projects, delivering on time and within budget.
• Oversee product development from concept to manufacture, ensuring designs meet technical, quality and commercial requirements.
• Review and approve engineering drawings, bills of materials and design documentation.
• Collaborate with sales, production, quality and other departments to deliver successful projects.
• Drive value engineering, standardisation and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Manage project priorities, resources and stakeholder communication.
• Ensure compliance with industry standards, customer specifications and health & safety requirements.

Required profile

• Previous experience as a Product Design Manager, Design Manager or Senior Mechanical Design Engineer.
• Recognised qualification in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
• Strong leadership experience managing engineering or design teams.
• Proven ability to deliver engineered products for manufacture, ideally high‑pressure equipment.

Required skills

• 3D CAD software proficiency.
• Engineering drawing and BOM creation.
• Design for Manufacture (DFM) knowledge.
• Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T).
• Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and engineering calculations.
• Experience with MRP systems.
• Quality management system familiarity.
