Job description
About the role
We are looking for a hands‑on Production Technician to bridge synthetic inorganic chemistry and process scale‑up. You will help translate new chemistry from the laboratory to kilogram‑scale production using pilot‑plant equipment at our ARC Oxford facility.
Key responsibilities
- Support scale‑up of inorganic and fluorination processes to kilogram‑plus quantities.
- Manufacture materials for internal validation, customer sampling and downstream applications.
- Perform quality control and stage‑gate analytical testing of inorganic and fluorinated products.
- Prepare samples and maintain accurate experimental and production records.
- Operate and monitor pilot‑scale reactors (up to 100 L) and associated plant equipment.
- Carry out preventative maintenance and troubleshoot process equipment.
- Contribute to safe handling and scale‑up of reactive chemistries, supporting process safety reviews and risk assessments.
- Act as a key interface between scale‑up and operations teams, including logistics and waste handling.
Required profile
- Degree (BSc, MChem or MSc) in Chemistry (synthetic focus preferred) or Chemical Engineering.
- Hands‑on experience with bench or pilot‑scale chemical processes.
- Experience operating reactor systems such as jacketed vessels larger than 10 L.
- Understanding of process safety considerations in chemical scale‑up.
- Strong organisational skills and ability to work independently and within a team.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Right to live and work in the United Kingdom.
- Desirable: exposure to scale‑up, pilot‑plant or manufacturing environments; practical engineering knowledge of valves, fittings and instrumentation; experience maintaining laboratory or pilot equipment.
Required skills
- Reactor operation (jacketed vessels > 10 L, pilot‑scale up to 100 L).
- Process safety assessment and risk management.
- Quality control and analytical testing of inorganic and fluorinated materials.
- Use of Microsoft Office for documentation and reporting.
What we offer
- Competitive salary £30,000‑£35,000 per annum.
- Private pension, private health insurance, group life insurance and share‑options plan.
- Opportunity to work on cutting‑edge synthetic chemistry with real industrial impact.
- Hands‑on experience in chemical scale‑up within an early‑stage deep‑tech company.
- Direct exposure to pilot‑plant and manufacturing processes.
- Career growth as the company expands.
