Project Accountant – Hybrid (3‑6 months)

About the role

This temporary position supports a large public‑service organisation undergoing extensive change programmes. As a Project Accountant you will be the financial lead for a portfolio of capital and transformation projects, working in a hybrid setting based near Oxford.

Key responsibilities

• Partner with Project Managers to embed finance into delivery, providing guidance on budgets, forecasting and performance.
• Challenge financial assumptions and drive corrective actions to keep projects within scope and budget.
• Develop robust business cases and accurately represent financial risks and benefits.
• Oversee capital policy, budgeting, reporting and long‑term financial planning.
• Lead procurement activity and contract evaluation within project streams.
• Present financial discussions at governance boards and assure senior stakeholders.
• Manage a portfolio of up to 50 initiatives valued at approximately £30 million.

Required profile

• CCAB‑qualified accountant with solid experience in project and capital accounting.
• Proven ability to partner with senior stakeholders and deliver commercially driven financial insight.
• Strong business‑partnering and communication skills.

Required skills

• Advanced Excel proficiency.
• Good knowledge of finance‑related systems.
