Project Engineer – Fire & Security Systems

About the role

We are looking for a Project Engineer to own the technical delivery of small to mid‑size fire and security projects across Gloucester and surrounding counties. You will work closely with the Installation Manager, coordinate install teams and subcontractors, and ensure projects are handed over cleanly to the Service team.

Key responsibilities

• Review surveys, proposals and drawings; validate scope, risks and exclusions.
• Produce device layouts, block diagrams, schedules and I/O lists; prepare RAMS, installation test plans and commissioning plans.
• Create daily task plans, brief install teams, manage kit lists and coordinate specialist subcontractors.
• Audit installations against drawings and standards, raise and close snags, and maintain site records.
• Commission systems to standards, witness client tests and produce as‑built documentation, test results and O&M folders.
• Validate take‑offs, support procurement, identify and price variations, and track labour and material spend against budget.
• Maintain clear site diaries, change logs and action lists; chair or contribute to progress meetings.

Required profile

• Minimum 3 years’ experience in project engineering or senior installation within fire and security.
• Hands‑on commissioning experience on mainstream platforms (e.g., Advanced, Ke...).
• Familiarity with NSI Gold procedures, BAFE SP203‑1 and relevant British codes of practice.
• Strong understanding of health & safety, risk management and documentation standards.

Required skills

• Fire detection and alarm systems to BS 5839‑1 and BS 5839‑6.
• Intruder, access control and CCTV systems to relevant British and NSI codes.
• Networking fundamentals, Power over Ethernet (PoE), VLAN basics and IP addressing.
• Device commissioning and testing.
