Project Engineer – Heavy Maintenance

About the role

As a Project Engineer at Arriva TrainCare you will support heavy‑maintenance projects that keep vital rail services running across the UK. Based at our Crewe depot you will work closely with the Heavy Maintenance Manager and project teams to ensure smooth delivery of engineering work.

Key responsibilities

• Follow ATC‑1098 Heavy Maintenance Process Document and drive continual improvement.
• Manage start/end of shift processes and create heavy‑maintenance block cards and work instructions.
• Develop project work breakdown structures (WBS) and production plans.
• Provide VMI, VOI, ATC work instructions and relevant documentation to the production team.
• Resolve material or obsolescence issues and handle technical queries with customers.
• Deliver toolbox talks and single‑point lessons throughout the project lifecycle.
• Lead daily production meetings with the Team Leader and Material Planner, updating trackers.
• Support the Heavy Maintenance Manager in delivering assigned contracts.

Required profile

• Minimum City and Guilds/BTEC/NVQ Level 3 certificate in Engineering.
• Previous experience in a heavy‑maintenance project engineering role.
• Good understanding of traction and rolling‑stock systems.
• Experience with rail vehicle heavy‑maintenance activities is advantageous.
• Full, valid driving licence.
