Project Engineer (Mechanical)

About the role

We are seeking a Mechanical Project Engineer to lead assigned projects from concept through delivery, ensuring they meet schedule, budget and quality targets. The role is based in Cramlington, North East England and offers a permanent contract.

Key responsibilities

• Manage projects from inception to completion, delivering on agreed timelines, budgets and quality standards.
• Prepare and present project proposals, cost justifications and progress updates.
• Review and interpret technical drawings, blueprints and specifications for compliance and accuracy.
• Provide mechanical engineering expertise across design, development, installation and commissioning phases.
• Produce and interpret 2D and 3D drawings using Autodesk Inventor and AutoCAD.
• Identify and drive process improvements in quality, machine efficiency and safety performance.
• Advise on spare‑parts requirements and recommended stock levels for new equipment.
• Evaluate, appoint and manage subcontractors, ensuring compliance with safety regulations and industry standards.
• Maintain oversight of construction‑related regulatory compliance (e.g., CDM).
• Ensure all activities adhere to recognised safety, environmental and operational standards.
• Liaise with external regulatory bodies when required and implement corrective actions for technical or site issues.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering preferred, or HNC/HND with significant relevant experience.
• 3–5 years of experience in mechanical engineering, capital project management or a similar environment.
• Proven experience managing projects and coordinating multidisciplinary teams.

Required skills

• Proficiency in engineering design software such as AutoCAD and Autodesk Inventor.
