Project Officer – South West Peatland Partnership

About the role

We are seeking a passionate Project Officer to join the South West Peatland Partnership (SWPP) hosted by South West Water. The role will place you at the heart of large‑scale peatland restoration across Cornwall, Dartmoor and Exmoor, working closely with National Park Authorities, Natural England, the Environment Agency and leading conservation organisations.

Key responsibilities

• Lead design, planning and delivery of ecologically ambitious restoration works at remote peatland sites.
• Act as Project Manager for restoration construction sites, managing contractors and applying CDM Regulations 2015.
• Develop restoration plans using field survey data and GIS tools such as QGIS and QField.
• Manage project budgets up to £1 million annually and oversee contractor payments.
• Engage with stakeholders including landowners, farmers and public bodies to secure support and collaboration.
• Ensure high‑quality delivery, compliance with health & safety standards and environmental regulations.
• Support monitoring, research projects and training activities.
• Collaborate across a wide partnership of environmental organisations.

Required profile

• Strong ecological expertise relevant to peatland habitats.
• Proven project management capability, preferably in environmental or restoration projects.
• Experience in stakeholder engagement with landowners, farmers and public agencies.
• Ability to work on remote sites and manage multiple tasks independently.
