Project Systems Accountant

About the role

This contract position supports a Local Authority in Essex, leading financial systems projects and upgrades across the council's corporate finance environment. Working 37 hours per week on a hybrid basis, you will act as the specialist advisor for system configuration, testing, training and stakeholder engagement.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and deliver financial systems projects, upgrades and ongoing enhancements.
• Monitor project progress, provide regular updates and ensure outcomes meet business objectives.
• Manage system configuration, user access rights, testing cycles and training programmes.
• Collaborate closely with Finance and ICT teams to resolve technical issues and implement improvements.
• Support budget monitoring, year‑end processes, reconciliations and financial reporting activities.

Required profile

• Experience working with financial management systems in a Local Government setting.
• Background in budgeting, budgetary control and financial reporting.
• Proven involvement in finance system upgrades, implementations or transformation projects.
• Strong stakeholder management and ability to work across Finance and ICT teams.
• AAT qualified, part‑qualified or fully qualified accountant (CIPFA, CIMA, ACCA or equivalent desirable).
