Projects Design Engineer

About the role

We are seeking a Projects Design Engineer to join a well‑established engineering firm that designs, manufactures and installs bespoke mechanical process systems across a range of industrial sectors. The role offers full project‑lifecycle involvement, from sales hand‑over through design, installation and commissioning.

Key responsibilities

• Manage engineering projects from sales hand‑over to final delivery and installation.
• Create plant layouts, general arrangement drawings and detailed fabrication drawings using AutoCAD 2D and SolidWorks 3D.
• Design fabricated components such as structural steelwork, sheet metal, pipework and heavy assemblies.
• Conduct site surveys and take measurements for new and existing installations.
• Liaise with customers, suppliers and subcontractors throughout project delivery.
• Procure equipment and negotiate with approved suppliers.
• Monitor project progress, costs and maintain comprehensive documentation.
• Produce O&M manuals, technical documentation and project data packs.
• Carry out supplier inspections and quality checks on manufactured equipment.
• Support installation and commissioning activities, including occasional UK travel and overnight stays.
• Work within an ISO9001 Quality Management System.

Required profile

• HND (minimum) in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
• At least 3 years’ experience using AutoCAD 2D and SolidWorks 3D.
• Strong background in producing fabrication and manufacturing drawings.
• Experience designing fabricated equipment including structural steelwork, sheet metal, pipework or heavy assemblies.
• Ability to interpret and produce plant layout and general arrangement drawings.
• Good understanding of mechanical manufacturing and fabrication processes.
• Excellent communication skills for confident interaction with customers and suppliers.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
