Prototype Technician – Electronics & PCB Assembly

About the role

We are seeking a Prototype Technician to join a leading technology and engineering consultancy in Romsey. You will support the manufacture, modification, repair and testing of prototype printed‑circuit boards (PCBs), cable forms and complex electro‑mechanical assemblies for defence‑related programmes.

Key responsibilities

• Assemble, modify, rework and repair prototype electronic assemblies, including fine‑pitch surface‑mount components down to 0201 size.
• Perform BGA rework and other complex PCB activities using microscopes and magnification tools.
• Manufacture and modify cable forms, wiring assemblies and electro‑mechanical box‑builds.
• Interpret engineering drawings, schematics and technical documentation accurately.
• Provide technical support to engineers, offering practical input on design for manufacture (DFM) and component selection.
• Diagnose faults, repair non‑conforming products and produce test reports, concessions and work instructions.
• Collaborate with engineers, product managers and project managers to meet prototype delivery timelines.

Required profile

• Experience as a Prototype Technician, Electronics Technician or Production Technician in a high‑tech or defence environment.
• Ability to work for extended periods under microscopes and handle very small components.
• Willingness to obtain and maintain SC clearance.
• Strong attention to detail and adherence to quality and safety standards.
