PSHE & Careers Teacher (Therapeutic Community School)

About the role

Apple Orchard School, a therapeutic community in Horsham, is seeking a dedicated PSHE & Careers Teacher. You will work with looked‑after young people who face SEMH challenges, delivering engaging personal, social, health and economic education alongside career guidance.

Key responsibilities

• Plan, deliver and assess PSHE and Careers curriculum in line with the National Curriculum and ASDAN frameworks.
• Develop vocational and career‑focused programmes that support students’ transition to further education or employment.
• Maintain high standards of classroom behaviour and create a safe, inclusive learning environment.
• Collaborate with the residential care team, therapy staff and senior leadership to support each pupil’s holistic development.
• Contribute to whole‑school initiatives, including safeguarding and pastoral care.

Required profile

• Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and a genuine passion for working with vulnerable young people.
• Strong ability to motivate, inspire and build trusting relationships with students.
• Excellent classroom management and the capacity to deliver stimulating, differentiated lessons.
• Flexibility to work as part of a small, supportive team and willingness to teach additional subjects as needed.
• Valid driver’s licence, capable of operating both manual and automatic vehicles.

Required skills

• Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).
• Experience delivering PSHE, Careers or related vocational programmes.
• Knowledge of SEMH and therapeutic education settings.
• Effective behaviour management techniques.
