Public Service Lecturer (Part‑time, 25.9 hrs/week)

About the role
We are seeking a passionate Public Service Lecturer to join New College Swindon on a part‑time basis (0.7 FTE, 25.9 hours per week). The role will draw on your experience in the emergency services, armed forces or other uniformed public sectors to inspire and prepare learners for careers in these fields.
Key responsibilities
- Deliver engaging lessons across Levels 1‑5, with a primary focus on the BTEC Level 3 Public Services programme.
- Teach a broad curriculum covering leadership, discipline, citizenship, behaviour, fitness and career preparation for uniformed services.
- Plan, deliver and assess learning, providing constructive feedback and maintaining accurate student records.
- Act as a personal tutor, supporting academic progress, wellbeing and future aspirations.
- Organise enrichment activities, employer engagement and educational visits to enhance the learner experience.
- Build and maintain strong links with employers and external organisations.
- Contribute to curriculum development, quality improvement and, where appropriate, course leadership.
Required profile
- A degree in a relevant subject area or significant vocational experience within the public services sector.
- Professional experience in emergency services, armed forces or a related public service environment.
- Level 5 teaching qualification (or willingness to achieve one with college support).
- Level 2 English, Maths and ICT qualifications (or commitment to obtain them within an agreed timeframe).
- Excellent communication, organisational and motivational abilities.
- Commitment to equality, inclusion and safeguarding.
Required skills
- Basic ICT proficiency (Level 2 qualification or equivalent).
