Purchase Ledger Clerk

About the role

The Purchase Ledger Clerk will join a small finance team within a long‑standing family‑run business. You will be responsible for accurately recording and processing all purchasing transactions, supporting the finance department’s commitment to financial integrity.

Key responsibilities

• Code and post supplier invoices to the purchase ledger, matching them to orders where appropriate.
• Set up new vendors in the accounting system with full details, including address, VAT number and bank information.
• Reconcile supplier statements monthly to ensure all invoices are received and processed.
• Update supplier bank details and post daily banking transactions.
• Make payments via BACS and cheques.
• Handle supplier queries courteously and distribute invoices for approval.
• File authorised and paid invoices, payments and remittances.
• Perform month‑end duties, preparing the purchase ledger for close.
• Maintain good relationships with suppliers and internal departments and assist with ad‑hoc tasks.

Required profile

• At least 2 years’ experience in purchase ledger or accounts payable.
• Strong organisational abilities and the capacity to work both independently and as part of a team.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Outstanding attention to detail and ability to reconcile complex accounts.
• Efficient, accurate and able to prioritise tasks as needed.

What we offer

• Salary £28,000 – £30,000 per year, based on experience.
• Full‑time, five days a week in the office.
• Standard working hours starting at 9 am.
