Qualified Social Worker – Family Help Team

About the role

Our client Luton Council is seeking a qualified social worker to join the Family Help team. The role involves safeguarding children and supporting families through assessment, planning and multi‑agency coordination.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct comprehensive, holistic assessments of need and risk for children and families, using the Department for Education guidance and Luton’s support framework.
• Lead and coordinate multi‑agency responses to child protection concerns and children in need.
• Carry out statutory duties under the Children Act 1989, including care proceedings, adoption arrangements, risk assessments and investigations.
• Prepare and execute court orders, represent the council in court and ensure compliance with legal requirements.
• Develop SMART plans aligned with the Practice Framework, negotiating resources with colleagues and service users.
• Promote anti‑discriminatory practice and empower children and families to have their voices heard.
• Maintain accurate, up‑to‑date case files in the council’s Liquid Logic database, adhering to GDPR and internal timescales.

Required profile

• Qualified social worker registration, with experience in child protection and family support.
• Ability to work under the Children Act 1989 and related legislation.
• Strong understanding of multi‑agency collaboration and case management processes.
• Willingness to undergo an enhanced DBS disclosure.
• Commitment to equality, diversity and safeguarding principles.

Required skills

• Proficiency with the Liquid Logic case management system.
