Qualified Surveyor – Technical Adviser

About the role

The Valuation Office is seeking a Qualified Surveyor to join its Technical Guidance Team as a Technical Adviser. You will provide expert technical leadership on complex local‑taxation and property valuation matters, working closely with legal professionals and senior officials.

Key responsibilities

• Manage litigation cases, including hearings at the Valuation Tribunal, appeals to the Upper Tribunal (Lands Chamber) and proceedings in the High Court.
• Appear as an advocate on behalf of the Valuation Officer or Listing Officer where required.
• Develop and maintain technical and procedural guidance to ensure consistent practice across the VO.
• Conduct research, analysis and evaluation of complex valuation and legal issues.
• Provide technical, legal and valuation advice to internal teams and external stakeholders.

Required profile

• Qualified Surveyor with extensive experience in local taxation and property valuation.
• Demonstrated ability to manage high‑profile, complex litigation independently.
• Strong analytical skills and a collaborative approach to working within a multidisciplinary team.
• Excellent communication skills for interacting with solicitors, barristers and senior officials.
