Quality Engineering Manager

About the role

Butler Rose is seeking an experienced Quality Engineering Manager to lead the quality function for a fast‑paced manufacturing business in Plymouth. Reporting to senior leadership, you will ensure products, processes and systems meet customer, regulatory and business standards while driving continuous improvement.

Key responsibilities

• Lead, mentor and develop the Quality Engineering team.
• Drive a culture of quality, continuous improvement and problem‑solving.
• Manage customer complaints and implement corrective actions.
• Lead 8D investigations and root‑cause analysis activities.
• Monitor, manage and report on key quality KPIs.
• Support New Product Introduction (NPI) and part qualification activities.
• Ensure compliance with ISO management systems and customer requirements.
• Collaborate with Engineering, Operations, Manufacturing and Supply Chain to resolve quality issues.
• Conduct appraisals, coaching and development for the team.
• Promote health and safety across the department.

Required profile

• HNC or equivalent qualification in an Engineering discipline.
• Proven experience in a manufacturing quality function.
• Previous leadership or management experience.
• Experience developing and managing engineering or quality teams.
• Knowledge of structured NPI processes.
• Strong problem‑solving and root‑cause analysis skills.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities.
• Ability to interpret engineering drawings and specifications.
• Strong organisational and workload management skills.
