Quantity Surveyor – Commercial Management (Newcastle)

About the role

Our client, a well‑established construction firm in Newcastle upon Tyne, is seeking an experienced Quantity Surveyor to lead the commercial management of multiple projects from pre‑construction through to final delivery. Reporting to the Commercial Director, you will be central to financial control and value creation across commercial, retail, heritage and education schemes.

Key responsibilities

• Own the commercial management and financial performance of several construction projects.
• Manage projects from early design stages through to completion and final account.
• Act as the commercial lead, ensuring robust cost control, reporting and financial governance.
• Collaborate with internal teams, subcontractors, suppliers and clients to support successful delivery.
• Monitor budgets, costs and commercial performance to maximise profitability.
• Prepare and review valuations, variations, cost reports and financial forecasts.
• Support contract administration and commercial decision‑making throughout the project lifecycle.
• Identify commercial risks and implement mitigation strategies.
• Maintain strong relationships with clients and stakeholders, providing commercial guidance.

Required profile

• Proven experience as a Quantity Surveyor within the construction industry.
• Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
• Experience acting as a commercial lead.
• Degree‑qualified with at least 4 years relevant experience, or non‑degree qualified with at least 7 years.

• Strong commercial and financial acumen.
• Excellent cost control and reporting capabilities.
• Ability to assess and mitigate commercial risks.
