Quantity Surveyor – Painting & Decorating Projects

About the role

We are looking for an enthusiastic Quantity Surveyor to join our Southampton Painting Unit, supporting a range of painting, decorating and refurbishment projects across public, private, residential and educational sectors. The role involves tendering, estimating and measuring work on‑site to ensure commercial success and client satisfaction.

Key responsibilities

• Measure and prepare cost estimates for contracts and tenders, highlighting commercial risks.
• Produce cost‑value reconciliations and identify opportunities for accurate contract planning.
• Collaborate with the Contracts Manager to set productivity and labour targets before contract start.
• Develop strong client and supplier relationships, managing variations and progress discussions.
• Analyse weekly site reports, ensuring cost information, labour rates, budgets, progress, quality and safety are captured.

Required profile

• Enthusiastic, people‑focused and entrepreneurial mindset.
• Experience in quantity surveying within construction, refurbishment or painting & decorating projects.
• Ability to identify commercial risks and propose solutions.
• Strong communication and relationship‑building skills.
• Attention to detail in cost reporting and analysis.
