Quarry Operative – Excavator Operator

About the role

Breedon Group plc is seeking two reliable Quarry Operatives to operate excavators on its Pitlochry site. You will work outdoors in a busy quarry environment, supporting the safe extraction, processing and handling of aggregates to meet production targets.

Key responsibilities

• Operate 50‑ton excavators safely on quarry faces and across the site.
• Carry out remedial works such as benching, grading, drainage and material movement.
• Support extraction, stockpiling and loading operations in line with daily production goals.
• Feed crushers, screeners and hoppers with raw materials using the excavator.
• Perform routine pre‑start inspections, cleaning and basic maintenance on plant.
• Follow site plans, schedules and supervisor instructions.
• Conduct regular safety checks and report hazards, defects or incidents immediately.
• Maintain tidy working areas around machinery, haul roads and operational zones.

Required profile

• Proven experience operating 50‑ton excavators in quarrying, construction or heavy industry.
• Good understanding of quarry safety practices and basic mechanical knowledge.
• Reliable, safety‑conscious and able to work as part of a team.
• Willingness to work outdoors in all weather conditions.

Required skills

• Excavator operation (50 t class)
• Basic mechanical maintenance of heavy plant
• CPCS certification (or equivalent)
• MPQC certification (or equivalent)
