Radiographic Assistant – Patient Care Support

About the role

The Radiographic Assistant provides the essential first point of contact for patients attending the Imaging Department at Royal Derby Hospital. Working closely with radiographers, you will help ensure a smooth, safe and compassionate experience for every patient undergoing imaging examinations.

Key responsibilities

• Greet and screen patients face‑to‑face or by telephone.
• Assist patients to change into appropriate clothing and prepare for examinations.
• Chaperone patients during procedures and support radiographers with positioning.
• Perform manual handling and movement of patients safely, following Trust guidelines.
• Enter and manage confidential patient information using hospital computer systems.
• Interpret written imaging requests and follow departmental protocols.

Required profile

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Friendly, reliable and hard‑working attitude.
• Ability to work under supervision while managing own workload.
• Resilience to handle occasional emotional situations.

Required skills

• NVQ Level 2 (or equivalent) – preferred but not essential.
• Computer literacy for data entry and information retrieval.
• Manual handling and patient positioning techniques.
