R&D Tax Director - Software

About the role

We are looking for a Director‑level professional with a strong technology background to lead a specialist team delivering R&D tax advisory services. The role sits within a national practice that blends tax, science, engineering and technology expertise to support clients ranging from owner‑managed businesses to large multinationals.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and manage multiple engagement teams, ensuring high technical quality, efficiency and consistency.
• Drive continuous improvement of team processes, methods and technology tools.
• Oversee development of claim methodologies and ensure compliant preparation of R&D tax relief documentation.
• Plan, resource and balance workloads across projects, streamlining workflows.
• Coach, mentor and develop team members, sharing best practices and technology insights.
• Build and maintain senior client relationships, acting as trusted adviser on innovation incentives.
• Represent clients in discussions and negotiations with HMRC specialists on technical aspects of claims.
• Establish best‑practice standards for R&D tax and innovation advisory across the wider practice.
• Lead business development activities, including proposal preparation and pitch participation.

Required profile

• Strong technical background in information technology or related disciplines.
• Proven leadership experience in managing teams and delivering professional services.
• Excellent project and stakeholder management skills.
• Effective communicator able to address both technical and commercial audiences.
