Reader in Construction Management

About the role

Manchester Metropolitan University is seeking a Reader in Construction Management to lead the development and delivery of new undergraduate and postgraduate programmes within its School of Engineering and Environment. This senior academic position will shape the future of construction education through high‑quality teaching, curriculum innovation and strong industry engagement.

Key responsibilities

• Provide academic leadership across education, practice and citizenship activities.
• Design and deliver research‑informed teaching for undergraduate and postgraduate courses.
• Develop innovative modules and contribute to programme enhancement.
• Mentor colleagues and support academic leadership initiatives.
• Build and maintain relationships with industry partners and professional bodies.
• Contribute to scholarship, knowledge exchange and external engagement.

Required profile

• PhD or equivalent experience in a relevant discipline.
• Significant experience developing and delivering Built Environment programmes in higher education.
• Broad expertise in construction management, including digital construction, construction technology, modern methods of construction, project management, sustainability or quantity surveying.
• Proven track record of delivering outstanding student experiences through innovative teaching and assessment.
• Experience of academic leadership, mentoring and leading projects or initiatives.
• Excellent communication and relationship‑building skills.
• Membership of, or willingness to work towards membership of, a professional body such as RICS, CIOB, PMI or APM.
