Reader in Quantum Computing

About the role
The University of Edinburgh invites applications for a permanent Reader position in Quantum Computing within the School of Informatics. The role supports the UK government’s £2 billion investment in quantum technologies and leads research linked to the Quantum Advantage TurboCharger (QATCH) programme.
Key responsibilities
- Lead an ambitious interdisciplinary research programme on scientific and industrial applications of quantum computing.
- Co‑develop activities with the Quantum Software Lab management team and contribute to the QATCH £20 million initiative.
- Attract external research funding and manage an independent research group.
- Supervise postgraduate students and deliver teaching across undergraduate and specialist courses.
- Engage with diverse teaching modalities, including online and distance learning.
- Provide leadership to advance the School’s strategic objectives.
Required profile
- PhD or equivalent experience with a strong record as an established academic in computer systems or related fields.
- Demonstrated ability to undertake original research and publish in high‑quality journals and conferences.
- Proven success in securing research funding and leading research teams.
- Extensive experience in postgraduate supervision and teaching.
- Effective written and oral communication skills for academic and public audiences.
