Recreation Assistant

About the role

GLL is seeking a friendly and reliable Recreation Assistant to work as a Lifeguard in our fast‑paced leisure facility in Newbury. You will ensure the safety of pool users while delivering excellent customer service and supporting the wider centre operations.

Key responsibilities

• Rotate through pool duties, supervising swimmers and maintaining a safe environment.
• Clean and tidy the pool area and surrounding facilities.
• Set up and maintain pool equipment and related resources.
• Provide first‑class customer service, handling queries and assisting visitors.
• Support gym and studio activities, including preparation and general centre upkeep.

Required profile

• Calm under pressure with a strong sense of responsibility.
• Excellent interpersonal skills and a customer‑focused attitude.
• Team player with a proactive, can‑do mindset.
• Knowledge of health and safety standards.
• National Pool Lifeguard Qualification (NPLQ) or willingness to obtain it after a swim test.

Required skills

• National Pool Lifeguard Qualification (NPLQ) – certification in lifeguarding.
