Recreation Assistant / Lifeguard – Flexible Hours

About the role

GLL is seeking a flexible Recreation Assistant to join the team at Sovereign Centre in Eastbourne. The role combines lifeguarding duties with general recreation support, offering a varied day‑to‑day experience in a vibrant community leisure environment.

Key responsibilities

• Rotate through pool shifts, supervising swimmers and ensuring safety.
• Maintain cleanliness of the pool area and surrounding facilities.
• Set up and manage equipment for swimming and other aquatic activities.
• Provide first‑class customer service and address visitor queries.
• Support the wider centre by preparing studios, gyms or sports halls and performing general upkeep tasks.

Required profile

• Calm under pressure with a strong sense of responsibility.
• Excellent interpersonal skills and a customer‑focused attitude.
• Team player who can adapt to varied duties.
• Possession of a current National Pool Lifeguard Qualification (NPLQ) and up‑to‑date training records is ideal.

Required skills

• Knowledge of health and safety procedures relevant to pool environments.
