About the role
The Recreation Craftsperson supports the Forest of Dean visitor sites by keeping the environment clean, safe and well‑maintained. Based at Beechenhurst, you will work outdoors across the forest, performing a variety of maintenance and litter‑management tasks.
Key responsibilities
- Collect and dispose of litter, empty bins and segregate recyclable waste.
- Maintain site infrastructure – install, repair and paint signs, fix fences, replenish fall‑protection materials and secure faulty play equipment.
- Seasonal strimming, mowing and occasional chemical spraying (with appropriate training).
- Inspect and service public toilets – restock supplies, unblock and clean as needed.
- Unlock and secure main entrances, gates and car‑park barriers each morning.
- Travel on foot, bike or vehicle (on‑ and off‑road) to perform duties across multiple sites.
Required profile
- Resilient and adaptable, able to work in all weather conditions year‑round.
- Physically capable of demanding manual tasks and able to work alone or with volunteers.
- Willing to work a seven‑day rota, including alternate weekends, public holidays and occasional out‑of‑hours events.
Required skills
- Operation of mowing and strimming equipment.
- Basic hand‑tool use for sign, fence and play‑equipment repair.
- Safe handling and application of approved chemicals (with certification).
