Reserve MGV Driver

About the role

Royal Mail is seeking Reserve MGV Drivers to join its Edinburgh Mail Centre team. You will be the public face of the organisation, collecting bulk mail from major customers and post offices, and transporting it between mail centres and delivery offices. The role involves a mix of driving, loading, unloading and basic sorting to ensure timely delivery across the community.

Key responsibilities

• Drive a van to collect bulk mail from customers, post offices and other Royal Mail facilities.
• Transport mail between the Edinburgh Mail Centre and delivery offices at scheduled times.
• Load, unload and secure mail items in the vehicle.
• Sort mail within the van for correct onward distribution.
• Maintain a professional, courteous presence while representing Royal Mail in the community.

Required profile

• Upbeat, self‑motivated and comfortable working alone or as part of a team.
• Strong sense of community and willingness to work flexible shift patterns.
• Enjoys outdoor work and is able to stay fit for walking rounds.
• Previous customer‑facing experience is desirable but not mandatory.

Required skills

• C1 Category driving licence (UK address, ≤6 penalty points, no TT99 endorsement).
• Periodic Driver Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC) qualification.
• Valid Drivers Qualification Card (DQC) with at least 35 hours of training.
• Digital Tachograph Card (must be presented at assessment).
