Residential Support Worker – SEND School Support Assistant

About the role

Join a specialist SEND school in Liverpool as a Residential Support Worker transitioning into a SEND Support Assistant role. You will use your existing residential care experience to help pupils with additional needs thrive in a classroom environment while enjoying a healthier work‑life balance.

Key responsibilities

• Support children with autism, complex learning needs and challenging behaviour in small, nurturing classroom settings.
• Assist pupils in regulating emotions, communicating effectively and accessing the curriculum.
• Provide personal care and help with daily routines when required.
• Use de‑escalation techniques and trauma‑informed approaches to create safe, predictable routines.
• Collaborate closely with teachers, therapists and behaviour specialists.
• Celebrate and document progress, both big and small, each day.

Required profile

• Previous experience in residential or children’s home settings supporting individuals with autism, complex learning needs, emotional or behavioural difficulties, or trauma‑informed care.
• Demonstrated patience, resilience and the ability to stay calm during crises.
• Willingness to work term‑time only and adapt to a school‑based schedule.

Required skills

• Strong interpersonal communication.
• Ability to build trust and rapport with young people.
• Basic understanding of personal care and safeguarding procedures.
