About the role

The Resilience Project Forester will join Forestry England’s Central England Forest District team, based in the district office at Sherwood Pines, Edwinstowe. Working within a blended (hybrid) model, you will help accelerate forest resilience and PAWS (Plantation on Ancient Woodland Site) restoration across a 30,000 ha district.

Key responsibilities

  • Lead delivery of the Resilience and PAWS restoration programme over a three‑year period.
  • Develop and implement a programme of works focused on restoration thinning to increase the nativeness of PAWS woodland sites.
  • Collaborate with Beat Foresters, wildlife specialists, planning, ecology and civil‑engineering teams to protect planting and natural regeneration.
  • Coordinate with district beat teams and a national network of forest‑resilience colleagues.
  • Manage field work, often outdoors and independently, ensuring efficient use of time and resources.

Required profile

  • Experience in forestry, woodland restoration or related environmental project management.
  • Knowledge of forest ecology, restoration techniques and PAWS objectives.
  • Ability to work autonomously in remote outdoor settings.
  • Strong collaboration skills with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Willingness to spend significant time in the field and manage own schedule.
