Revenues Officer – Council Tax & Business Rates

About the role

We are seeking a proactive, customer‑focused Revenues Officer to join the council’s Revenues team in Croydon. You will be responsible for the accurate administration, collection and recovery of Council Tax and Business Rates, helping to maintain the council’s financial health while delivering high‑quality public service.

Key responsibilities

• Handle customer enquiries via phone, online channels and face‑to‑face appointments.
• Maintain up‑to‑date Council Tax and Business Rates records, applying legislation and council policy.
• Set up new accounts, process reductions, exemptions, discounts and refunds.
• Negotiate payment arrangements, including post‑summons cases.
• Support court hearings by interviewing customers and preparing documentation.
• Implement recovery actions to maximise revenue.
• Liaise with internal teams and external partners such as the Valuation Office, DWP and solicitors.
• Use systems like Northgate, Iclipse, CRM and tracing tools to update records and investigate cases.
• Contribute to service‑improvement projects and team meetings.

What we offer

• Full‑time, Monday‑Friday, 36‑hour week.
• Hourly rate of £20.38 PAYE or £27.03 Umbrella.
• 3‑month fixed‑term contract with possibility of extension.
