Room-Based Third-in-Charge – Early Years Leader

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Early Years professional to take charge of a dedicated room in our high‑quality nursery near Billericay. The Room‑Based Third‑in‑Charge will lead a small team, support the Nursery Manager and Deputy Manager, and ensure the delivery of outstanding childcare and education.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and inspire your room team to provide high‑quality early years provision.
• Assist the management team with the day‑to‑day operation of the nursery, including opening and closing as a key holder.
• Maintain safeguarding, health & safety, and compliance standards.
• Ensure staff‑to‑child ratios, registers and daily routines run smoothly.
• Coach, mentor and develop staff members.
• Monitor children’s learning, observations and planning to achieve excellent outcomes.
• Build strong partnerships with children, families and colleagues.
• Support inspections, quality improvement and continuous development.

Required profile

• Level 3 Early Years qualification or higher.
• Proven experience as a Room Leader or senior Early Years practitioner.
• Strong knowledge of the EYFS, safeguarding and Ofsted requirements.
• Excellent leadership, communication and organisational abilities.
• Positive, enthusiastic and child‑centred approach.

Required skills

• Knowledge of EYFS framework.
• Understanding of safeguarding and health & safety regulations.
