Sales Ledger Team Leader

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Sales Ledger Team Leader to head the sales ledger function for a purpose‑led organisation in Bristol. Reporting to the Finance Manager, you will oversee the end‑to‑end accounts receivable process while developing a Senior Accounts Assistant and driving continuous improvement across the finance team.

Key responsibilities

• Lead daily operations of the Sales Ledger, ensuring accurate invoicing and credit note issuance.
• Manage, coach and develop a Senior Accounts Assistant.
• Oversee debt collection, monitor aged debt and maintain strong customer relationships.
• Perform sales ledger reconciliations and resolve discrepancies.
• Support month‑end and year‑end reporting and produce debtor performance reports.
• Review and enhance processes, controls and procedures.
• Assist with audit requirements and ensure compliance with financial policies.
• Collaborate with budget holders and operational teams to improve cash collection and billing accuracy.

Required profile

• Proven experience in a Sales Ledger Supervisor, Team Leader or Accounts Receivable leadership role.
• Strong understanding of sales ledger, credit control and debt management.
• Experience managing or mentoring finance staff.
• Excellent organisational ability and attention to detail.
• Effective stakeholder management and problem‑solving skills.
• Good Microsoft Excel proficiency and experience with finance systems.
• Ability to work independently and handle competing priorities.
