School Business Manager

About the role

The School Business Manager will work closely with the Headteacher and Senior Leadership Team to oversee the financial, administrative and operational functions of a thriving primary school in Burnley. This full‑time, permanent position offers the chance to make a tangible impact on pupil outcomes through effective business leadership.

Key responsibilities

• Lead financial planning, budgeting and monitoring for the school.
• Manage HR administration, personnel records and staff contracts.
• Oversee procurement, supplier contracts and cost control.
• Ensure health & safety compliance and statutory obligations.
• Direct premises and facilities management, including maintenance and space planning.
• Maintain administration systems and operational procedures.
• Support strategic planning and business development for the Headteacher and Governors.

Required profile

• Previous experience as a School Business Manager or in a comparable operational leadership role.
• Strong financial management and budgeting expertise.
• Excellent organisational, communication and interpersonal abilities.
• Calm under pressure with a solution‑focused approach and keen attention to detail.
• Experience with school management information systems such as SIMS is desirable.
• A recognised school business management or finance qualification is advantageous.
