School Caretaker – Full‑time

About the role

Polaris Community is seeking an experienced School Caretaker to maintain two small‑to‑medium sized school sites in the Batley and Huddersfield area. You will ensure the premises are clean, safe and welcoming for pupils, staff and visitors.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain clean, safe and secure school buildings and grounds.
• Perform routine cleaning, minor repairs, refurbishment and DIY projects.
• Supervise and support school cleaning staff.
• Carry out porterage duties such as moving furniture and equipment.
• Promote health and safety standards across both sites.
• Arrange larger repairs and obtain contractor quotes.
• Handle daily cleaning tasks, litter picking and waste disposal.
• Respond to emergency cleaning needs, e.g., gritting during adverse weather.

Required profile

• Proven experience in school or similar facilities caretaking.
• Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks across two sites.
• Good communication skills with staff and external contractors.
• Commitment to health and safety best practices.

Required skills

• Basic maintenance and repair techniques.
• Use of cleaning equipment and safe handling of chemicals.
• Knowledge of health and safety regulations for educational settings.
