About the role
We are seeking a reliable School Caretaker to join a well‑established school in East Hertfordshire. You will be responsible for the day‑to‑day operation, maintenance and security of the school premises, ensuring a safe and welcoming environment for pupils, staff and visitors.
Key responsibilities
- Open and lock the school site each day.
- Carry out routine maintenance, repairs and general DIY tasks.
- Maintain cleanliness, safety and presentation of buildings and grounds.
- Conduct regular health‑and‑safety and fire‑safety checks.
- Set up rooms for meetings, assemblies and events.
- Liaise with contractors and oversee on‑site works.
- Report and resolve maintenance issues.
- Assist with deliveries and move furniture or equipment.
- Perform seasonal duties such as gritting pathways.
- Ensure the school remains secure and compliant with health‑and‑safety requirements.
Required profile
- Previous experience in caretaking, facilities, maintenance or site management.
- Strong practical DIY and maintenance abilities.
- Proactive, flexible and hands‑on approach.
- Good organisational and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and prioritise workloads.
- Commitment to maintaining a safe, clean and welcoming environment.
- Experience in a school setting is beneficial but not essential.

- Salary £25,000‑£28,000 per annum, dependent on experience.
