School Caretaker – Hackney (Full‑time Temporary)

About the role

We are looking for a dedicated caretaker to join a vibrant school in Hackney, East London. Working Monday to Friday, you will help maintain a safe, clean and welcoming environment for students and staff.

Key responsibilities

• Lock up the site and set the alarm each evening.
• Carry out weekly fire alarm checks and uphold safety protocols.
• Perform general repairs, including unblocking sinks, fixing doors, windows and toilet seats.
• Undertake painting, decorating, shelving and pin‑board installation as needed.
• Conduct daily health and safety inspections.
• Supervise contractors and ensure work meets standards.
• Provide porterage services – move furniture, deliver parcels, empty bins and restock supplies.
• Maintain school grounds, sweep leaves and keep communal areas tidy.

Required profile

• Previous experience in a caretaker or maintenance role is preferred.
• Ability to perform physical tasks and handle a variety of handyperson duties.
• Good knowledge of health and safety regulations.
• Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks.
• Reliable, punctual and able to work independently.
