School Caretaker – Hackney (Full‑time Temporary)

About the role

We are seeking a dedicated caretaker to join a vibrant school near Hackney, East London. The role involves maintaining a safe and welcoming environment for students and staff, working on a rotating Monday‑Friday schedule.

Key responsibilities

• Locking up the site and setting the alarm each day.
• Conducting weekly fire alarm checks and maintaining safety protocols.
• Performing general repairs, including fixing doors, windows, sinks and toilets.
• Carrying out painting, decorating, and minor carpentry tasks such as installing shelves and pin boards.
• Replacing toilet seats and other fixtures, and ensuring supplies like soap and hand sanitizer are stocked.
• Conducting daily health and safety inspections to protect students and staff.
• Overseeing contractors on site and ensuring work meets required standards.
• Providing porterage services, moving furniture and delivering parcels.
• Maintaining school grounds, litter picking, sweeping leaves and emptying bins.

Required profile

• Previous experience in a caretaker or maintenance role is preferred.
• Ability to perform physical tasks and handle various handyperson duties.
• Reliable, punctual and able to work independently with a strong sense of responsibility.
