School Caretaker

About the role

Our client is looking for a reliable School Caretaker to keep the school environment safe, clean and well‑presented for pupils, staff and visitors. Working full‑time on a permanent basis, you will be responsible for the day‑to‑day upkeep of buildings, grounds and facilities.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain cleanliness, security and safety of all school buildings and outdoor areas.
• Respond to help‑desk requests and carry out routine maintenance tasks.
• Lock and unlock buildings as required and provide porterage services for events.
• Perform planned preventative maintenance, including fire alarm testing and emergency lighting checks.
• Support out‑of‑hours use of school facilities when needed.
• Use cleaning equipment, chemicals and tools safely and in line with health‑and‑safety procedures.

Required profile

• Strong organisational and problem‑solving abilities.
• Commitment to safeguarding, confidentiality and willingness to undergo an Enhanced DBS check.
• Positive, self‑motivated and proactive approach to work.

Required skills

• Basic knowledge of building maintenance and cleaning procedures.
• Familiarity with fire alarm and emergency lighting systems.
• Safe handling of cleaning chemicals and equipment.
