School Catering Assistant (Term‑time, 20 hrs/week)

About the role

We are looking for a friendly and reliable School Catering Assistant to support the catering team at a Dunstable school on a term‑time basis. The role involves preparing and serving lunches, maintaining hygiene standards and providing a pleasant lunchtime experience for pupils and staff. It is a 20‑hour per week position (10 am‑2/2:30 pm) starting in September.

Key responsibilities

• Assist with food preparation, including sandwiches, desserts and homestyle meals.
• Set up the dining hall for lunch service and serve meals courteously.
• Clean kitchen areas, service counters, equipment and utensils after each service.
• Maintain high standards of food safety and personal hygiene in line with Level 2 Food Hygiene requirements.
• Interact positively with students and staff, reporting any illness or hygiene concerns promptly.

Required profile

• Previous experience in a catering or kitchen assistant role, preferably in a school setting.
• Level 2 Food Hygiene certificate.
• Reliable, punctual and able to follow instructions.
• Commitment to safeguarding and the welfare of children.
• Team‑player with a strong work ethic.

Required skills

• Food preparation and service.
• Knowledge of food safety and hygiene standards (Level 2 Food Hygiene).

What we offer

• Term‑time contract (September‑July).
• 20 hours per week, 10 am‑2/2:30 pm.
• Hourly rate of £14.24‑£15.
