School Chef – Catering Lead

About the role

We are looking for a skilled chef to leave unsociable restaurant hours behind and join a vibrant school community in Burnley. The role offers a rewarding work‑life balance with daytime, Monday‑to‑Friday hours and a clear pathway to a permanent contract.

Key responsibilities

• Plan, cook and present nutritious breakfasts, lunches and snacks for students and staff in line with School Food Standards.
• Maintain balanced menus while catering for dietary requirements, allergies and cultural preferences.
• Oversee daily kitchen operations, including stock control, ordering and waste minimisation.
• Ensure strict compliance with food safety, COSHH and health‑and‑safety regulations, keeping HACCP documentation up to date.
• Lead and motivate a small team of kitchen assistants to deliver smooth, timely service during busy lunch periods.

Required profile

• Proven experience as a Head Chef, Sous Chef or Cook in education, care or high‑volume catering environments.
• City & Guilds 706/1 & 2 or NVQ Level 2/3 in Professional Cookery (or equivalent).
• Current Level 3 Food Safety Certificate.
• Strong knowledge of food allergens, nutrition and standard kitchen health and safety.
