School Counsellor – Support Children’s Mental Health

About the role
We are looking for a compassionate and dedicated School Counsellor to join our team from September 2026. You will work within a supportive school environment, providing confidential one‑to‑one counselling and emotional support to pupils.
Key responsibilities
- Deliver confidential counselling sessions to students, helping them overcome barriers to learning.
- Collaborate with teachers, parents, and external agencies to coordinate support.
- Maintain accurate records while respecting confidentiality and safeguarding policies.
- Promote positive mental health and wellbeing across the school community.
Required profile
- Recognised counselling qualification (minimum Level 4 Diploma or equivalent) or relevant experience in an educational setting.
- Membership or accreditation with a professional body such as BACP, UKCP or NCPS, or working towards it.
- Experience working with children and young people, preferably in schools.
- Strong understanding of safeguarding, child protection and confidentiality.
Required skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
- Ability to build trusting relationships with pupils, families and staff.
- Organisational and record‑keeping competence.
