School Finance Officer – Part‑time

About the role

The school is seeking an experienced Finance Officer to provide day‑to‑day financial and administrative support. Working closely with the School Office Manager, you will ensure accurate record‑keeping, timely processing of transactions and compliance with statutory requirements.

Key responsibilities

• Process income and expenditure entries and maintain the school’s financial systems.
• Enter transactions accurately into accounting software and perform month‑end procedures, including bank reconciliations.
• Assist with year‑end reporting and preparation of financial statements.
• Handle invoices, staff expenses, purchase orders and BACS payments in line with school policies.
• Monitor outstanding debts, support debt recovery and maintain accurate manual and digital records.
• Produce and analyse reports to aid budget management.
• Maintain records for free school meals, pupil premium, nursery funding and catering services.
• Administer school lettings, update website information and provide general office support, including reception duties.

Required profile

• Organised, detail‑focused professional with experience in school or similar finance environments.
• Strong understanding of financial procedures, statutory compliance and audit requirements.
• Ability to handle confidential information with accuracy.
• Effective communicator who can work collaboratively with administrative teams.
• Proactive approach to supporting the school’s financial operations.

Required skills

• Experience using Arbor Finance or comparable school finance systems.
• Proficiency with general accounting software and BACS payment processes.
• Competence in maintaining both manual and computerized financial records.
