Science Museum Collection Archivist

About the role

The Science Museum Group is seeking a self‑motivated Collection Archivist to take ownership of its national archive, which spans topics from Concorde to Covid and from space travel to early computing. Working from the Science and Innovation Park, you will lead efforts to make the archive more accessible and support the museum’s collections development strategy.

Key responsibilities

• Manage day‑to‑day operations of the museum’s archive, including cataloguing, restorage and preservation.
• Review and improve existing archival systems and processes.
• Develop and deliver projects that increase public engagement with archive materials.
• Identify and coordinate volunteering opportunities related to the collections.
• Liaise with senior management and stakeholders across the Science Museum Group to advocate for curatorial priorities.
• Monitor progress and report on collection development initiatives.

Required profile

• Self‑driven individual comfortable working independently and taking initiative.
• Experience assessing large, diverse collections and establishing priorities.
• Ability to hit the ground running and bring the archive under proper control.
• Strong communication skills for stakeholder engagement.
